From: Alex Sent: 06 February 2009 17:56 To: Social Subject: Newborn babies Hello social, A few months ago I wrote to social for advice about weddings and wedding gifts. That worked out well for me, so once again I invite you to help me with something that's never happened in my life. A good friend of mine is currently pregnant. She's going to burst in about a week (that's how it works, right? The baby tears through your stomach like the thing in Alien?) and presumably there's something I should do to herald this new arrival. Does one buy gifts? If so, what? Do I give her a card? A bottle of wine ("Congratulations, you can go back to ingesting whatever you want")? All advice gratefully received. In return, I offer you the following advice that I learnt the hard way: new mothers like to show off the new things they've bought for their babies - prams, cots, clothes, etc. Two things my friend has bought is a vegetable steamer and a blender. Here's what not to say: Me: "Neat. That's for bathing the baby, right? Steam-cleaning them makes them super hygienic." Her: "Erm, no. Besides, I don't think he'd fit in it." Me: "I know. That's what the blender's for." Expectant mothers will not find this funny. -- Alex .~. Java/PHP Developer /V\ // \\ "Variables won't; Constants aren't" /( )\ ^`~'^
