Shoreditch Magistrate's Court
This gallery contains photos taken inside Shoreditch Magistrate's Court whilst it was occupied by members of Occupy Justice. I worked in the area for years and always wanted to see inside the building. So I called up the caretakers (the number's posted outside) and asked if I could come in. They were friendly & helpful, and seemed to be taking care of the place – the only sign of the previous night's party was one stray bottle cap, and one of the caretakers was hoovering.
It's a cold building but there's no sense of damp. There's also not much available as it's considered unsafe. The paint is flaky in places, but apart from that it seems in good condition downstairs. I don't know much about architecture but it's got a sense of the Edwardian about it. I'm told there's little hope for it being reused – it's a Grade II listed building, so you can't remove the interior walls, which makes it difficult to adapt to other uses. What would you do with a cell block?
